I’m thankful for my resources. My education, job opportunities, networking connections, support system. All of it. I think of them as streams, all stemming from the same ultimate source.
God is the source.
Everything else is an avenue, an instrument that he uses to provide for the children he loves. Provision can flow through many means, but God is the source. In times of leanness, whether financial, emotional, or relational, we can find peace in knowing that although a resource may have dwindled, the Source can never be depleted.
The enemy would love to use lean times to sow seeds of scarcity and fear and most of all, to whisper words of doubt and accusation against our good Father. He is crafty and cunning, but we have been made aware of his tactics and his purpose. His purpose is to destroy and devour.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8 (NLT)
We are to stay on alert. And with this awareness and sober mindedness, according to 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NLT), “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” We are able to cast down every thought process or idea that is in opposition to what God has already said. And what did he already say? Matthew 6:25a (NKJV) says “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.”
For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 6:32b-33 NKJV
God promises to give us what we need, when we need it. When we are about His business, he’ll take care of ours. There is overwhelming peace to be experienced and deeper levels of trust to be reached in times of leanness. As an act of faith, trust God and lay hold on your peace, cling to it. And then thank God for His unfailing provision.
